"Primary Reflexes are present during our gestation time and play a significant role in our birth process, as well as our physical, cognitive, and emotional development during our first few years of life. Whether a reflex is functioning as Regulated, Hypo, or Hyper, our primary reflexes continuously function in the role of survival and protection throughout our life. What is less understood is how to identify and offer easy and gentle support when our inhibited or hyperactive survival reflexes surface during a session in which somatic experiences of trauma arise during a therapeutic session."
Approaches to Reflex Integration
There are several established approaches to developing, regulating, and integrating interrupted reflexes:
- Motor — moving as the reflex would
- Sensory — focusing on the associated senses
- Kinesthetic — building gradually toward integrated movement through precise movement patterns
- Somatic (Our Focus) — building on our foundational training in Reflex Integration, we focus on making room for the emotional and physical sensations associated with an interrupted reflex. We help unwind the built-up energetic and physical bracing that blocks integration. The result is a shedding of structural burdens and a lightening of a physical load that was often previously unnoticed.
Our Training & Journey
After massage school, my wife Susanna and I built a wellness clinic on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado, before graduating together from the Rolf Institute and School of Structural Integration in 1989.
As we established our private bodywork practices, we continued our training with Jeff Krock and Pamela Lendzion, the founders of Life Energy Fundamentals — a somatic healing practice focused on heart presence, clear mind, grounding, and refined perception. In 1998, we were both certified as advanced teachers of this work.
Over the last several decades, we have continued our somatic education, exploring numerous healing modalities. These include specialized repatterning work for physical injury recovery and ancestral healing to address deep-seated, inherited structural patterns.
Today, our approach to reflex integration is a synthesis of these lifetimes of exploration:
- Rolfing's systematic map of the body's connective tissue
- Breathwork's emotional and energetic dimensions
- Life Energy Fundamentals' direct access to the nervous system
- Ancestral healing's recognition that we carry our lineage in our physical tissue
- A unified consciousness framework that ties it all together
How We Work with You Today
We have translated much from these decades of hands-on experience into a structured, supportive pathway to help you update your kinetic blueprint:
- The 35-Key Reflex Profile: An online assessment to map your nervous system's current baseline and help identify your specific over-active or under-active pathways.
- Your Kinetic Blueprint Manual (COMING SOON): A targeted, home-practice guide containing precise, awareness-based nervous system exercises to continue integrating reflexes and help you shift from neuro-muscular "gremlins" to "genies."
- In-Person Somatic Sessions: One-on-one, hands-on care designed to complement your home practice by helping reduce neurological friction, smoothing out movement conflicts, and accelerating your structural alignment.
- Video Consultation and Coaching: Weekly or monthly sessions to complement your home practice through collecting context, evaluating progress, identifying next priorities, and helping you overcome obstacles.
Sessions: Allow 1 hour per session. Set aside 15 minutes before and after for your preparation and integration.
Pricing: Sliding scale, $90 to $150 per session based on your budget.
